What do you think is the most unique part of your process or work?
I often throw with porcelain, and I use clay colorant instead of glazing the entire piece. I usually don't use any glazes to color the outside of the pieces, only the inside and sometimes the rim. The colorant doesn't affect the texture of the clay at all. You can mix it in stoneware and the clay will retain its grittiness. I love the way it looks and porcelain feels like you're throwing with butter!
What kind of kiln do you use? How hot does it get?
I use an electric kiln that goes up to 2232 degrees Fahrenheit.
How did you get started as a ceramicist?
I left my corporate fashion career of 15 years in NYC and moved back home to LA. I took a ceramics class for fun, and kept getting inspired by my travels. And that's how it started!
